Hours:
Here at Susquehanna Tree Care, we take a multipronged approach to dealing with insect and disease management. Often, but not always, these issues can be a sign of a larger health issue, and so getting a proper evaluation from an ISA Certified Arborist is a great first step.
We identify any immediate and long-term issues and create an appropriate plan to help remediate these problems. We offer several services to help plants stay healthy and whole.
Proper pruning can help to improve the overall health of a plant, and it's a great preventative action and a good first step when dealing with many insect and disease issues. In some cases, fertilization and/or pesticide/herbicide application may be necessary.

Emerald Ash Borer
The emerald ash borer (EAB) is an invasive insect from Asia that is responsible for killing millions of ash trees across the US, and it has been in Pennsylvania since 2007. The EAB is a half-inch long metallic green beetle that feeds under the bark of trees and leaves a distinct D-shaped exit hole in the bark. It is a particularly deadly pest and often kills a tree within three to four years of infestation.
Common symptoms include upper crown dieback, epicormic branching, bark splits, bark flaking, and tissue damage resulting from woodpecker predation. Preventative care is a very necessary step to help avoid this deadly pest and an aggressive approach needs to be taken in the case of an actual infestation.
Susquehanna Tree Care is taking such action! This spring is the perfect time to have STC come inject your ash trees with a powerful pesticide that cuts off the emerald ash borer at the source. Spring is a crucial time to get your injections to prevent any of the larvae from hatching and further damaging your trees. Even if your ash trees are not yet infected, the injection will prevent any infestation from occurring. Book an appointment now to have an STC professional arborist come out and examine your ash trees!
Hemlock Woolly Adelgid
The hemlock woolly adelgid is an invasive insect from East Asia that feeds on the sap of hemlock and spruce. Here at Susquehanna Tree Care, we see this pest on almost every hemlock we do work on.
The most common way to identify an infestation is by what appears to be bits of cotton on the underside of the branches. It feeds on the sap on the end branches, causes the tree to lose its needles, and hinders new growth. Death typically occurs within four to ten years of infestation, and even trees and shrubs that survive are often weakened to the point that they die from secondary causes.
